Dream design brief

In 2022, I created the brand identity for Field Trip, a Northern Michigan mercantile. Situated along the iconic M22 scenic drive, the store stocked unique goods from independent, modern makers and merchants, both local and global.

The store opened in 2022, with a beautiful custom sign created from the simplest variation of the logo.

 
 

I created a branding system that evoked the fun, spontaneous nature of exploring nature in Northern Michigan. In short, I wanted it to feel like you were on, well, a field trip! As such, the branding was made to be played with. Shape, color and bold typography could be combined in many ways. This final brand kit gave the founders a place to start and ideas for how to bring the design to life.

Brand elements came to life onsite, online, and on some of the products themselves.

A pattern lover through and through, I had to create a surface pattern design for Field Trip. It’s still one of my favorite things to look at from this project. It reminds me of my beloved hometown Up North, and the awesome people who brought Field Trip to life.
